Here at Fanwood, educators believe that, on top of the common core classes, students should also learn to be aware of health, social, and political issues. Led by teacher, Amy Newland, students organized a #GoRedForWomen day, where they all wore red and dedicated part of class time towards learning about the impacts of heart disease.

#GoRedForWomen encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and is also an action to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease.

In fact, more women than men die every year from heart disease and stroke. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes. Go Red For Women advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health.
