NYSD Student Athletes Ready To Compete!

On Tuesday, September 22, Fanwood’s Volleyball team competed in their first away game against Green Meadow.  The Lady Tornadoes proved early on that one of their strengths is in their serves.  Additionally, this game was a great opportunity for the athletes to learn more about their new positions.
While the Lady Tornadoes played hard, the game ultimately ended in a 0-2 loss.

Senior & team captain, Victoria P., earned three aces and junior Rosalinda T., added to the stats with one ace on record.

The very first home Volleyball game is Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 3:30. Please come and support NYSD!

NYSD 1 – Green Meadow 0

On Tuesday, Green Meadow hosted Fanwood’s first scrimmage of the season. Even though their competition was a scrimmage, the boys came ready to played a great game.

Senior Carlos V., scored in the second half for the Tornadoes, locking in the win for NYSD. Goalkeeper Agron D. made a crucial and exciting save after a one-on-one challenge from an opposing player. The coaches are proud of the team and are looking forward to a great season.

Carlos V. scored off an assist from senior Pjay C., and goalkeeper Agron D. had 10 saves.

Our first game of the season will be on September 25, Friday at 4:15pm at French-American School

NYSD Remembers 9/11/01. Click To Learn More

IMG_8997In memory of the many lives lost on September 11, 2001, New York School for the Deaf students and staff members gathered in the Ford Hall Auditorium at 8:30 a.m. on Friday September 11, 2015.  Superintendent, Dr. Ron Stern, welcomed the group and invited everyone to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

After providing a brief timeline of the events that took place on September 11, 2001, IMG_9010Dr. Stern explained the importance of honoring the people who lost their lives on that tragic day.   Also recognized, were the many heroes who took action in the wake of this tragedy and fought hard to protect our nation.

At 8:46 a.m., Dr. Stern led NYSD students and staff members in several moments of silence.  For 3 minutes, each and every person in that Auditorium sat in complete silence and stillness; all focused on the lives lost on 9/11 and the brave women and men who fight for the freedom of our nation.

Despite the years that havIMG_9008e passed, NYSD and all of the world will carry this in their hearts forever.  Our hearts goes out to all those impacted by the events that occurred on 9/11/01.

 

 

Welcome Back, Students!

IMG_3730Students were all smiles as they exited their buses and walked through the doors of New York School for the Deaf on September 8, 2015.  There was a great deal of excitement in the air as students greeted their classmates.

The positive energy is felt throughout campus as students and staff members look forward to a school year full of learning, growth, and creativity – in and out of the classroom.
