The Foundation has been a great support to the school over the years, giving a grant in 1991 to build the previous playground. That playground is now closed due to structural damage from Hurricane Sandy and accessibility issues. The new playground will feature a poured rubber surface, making it fully accessible to all of our students regardless of mobility.
Prior to this grant award, the school community, trustees and friends raised over $47,000 with an online campaign hosted by Crowdrise. Because of the dedication of our community and the boost of this generous grant by The Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation, the final goal is well within reach. New York School for the Deaf hopes to have the playground completed by late fall 2o14.
